Learning from Global Dairy Practices: A Journey Towards Modern Farming

In 2008, after taking on the responsibility as Director of Rajhans Doodh Sangh, Ranjeet Deshmukh began focusing on gaining a deeper understanding of the dairy sector and identifying opportunities to strengthen it through global best practices.

A significant milestone in this journey came in 2009, with a visit to the Netherlands to study some of the world’s most advanced dairy farming systems. The visit provided valuable insights into modern dairy operations and highlighted the differences between traditional farming systems in India and the highly organized, efficiency-driven approaches followed in the Netherlands.

One of the most important learnings from this international exposure was the Loose Housing System. The system provides cattle with adequate open space, proper ventilation and a clean, comfortable environment. These conditions can help improve cattle health, reduce stress and support their overall well-being.

The experience reinforced the importance of adopting scientific and modern practices in Indian dairy farming. Improved cattle management and better housing systems can contribute significantly to higher milk productivity while also creating healthier conditions for dairy animals.

The Netherlands visit became an important learning experience in Deshmukh’s journey toward modernizing dairy farming. It strengthened the vision of bringing global best practices to the local dairy sector and building a more efficient, progressive and productive dairy ecosystem for farmers.
