The strength and significance of India’s dairy industry in the national economy were highlighted effectively by Shri Ranjeet Deshmukh.
While the sugar industry provides employment to nearly 5 million people, the dairy industry is connected to the livelihoods and employment of around 80 million people. This clearly demonstrates the vast economic and social importance of the dairy sector in India.
The dairy business is closely connected with farmers, women’s self-help groups, milk producers, and rural communities. It is truly one of the strongest pillars of the rural economy, providing regular income and livelihood opportunities to millions of families.
India has emerged as the world’s largest milk-producing country, and this achievement reflects the dedication and hard work of dairy farmers across the nation.
The dairy sector has immense potential to strengthen rural livelihoods and create sustainable opportunities. Continued efforts towards better dairy management, improved productivity, modern technology, and farmer empowerment can further strengthen this important industry.
The contribution of dairy farmers extends beyond milk production. Their daily efforts support families, communities, and the economy, and remain central to India’s economic growth today.
India’s dairy success is, above all, a reflection of the hard work of its milk-producing farmers.
